Crowns and bridges

A crown covers and protects a badly damaged tooth — after extensive decay, a fracture or root canal treatment — restoring its shape, strength and colour. A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by resting on the neighbouring teeth, which are prepared to carry the structure. We use modern metal-free ceramics such as zirconia and lithium disilicate, for a result that is natural-looking, strong and biocompatible.

Implant-supported restorations

When one or more teeth are missing, the alternative to a bridge — one that leaves the neighbouring teeth untouched — is a restoration on implants: from a single crown screwed onto one implant, to a bridge on several implants, right up to the full restoration of an entire arch with a fixed prosthesis anchored to a few implants. It is today's solution of choice for anyone who wants fixed, stable teeth, even when no natural teeth remain.

Fixed and removable dentures

From partial dentures to full-mouth rehabilitation, we design the solution best suited to your clinical situation and your budget. Removable dentures (partial with clasps, or complete) remain a valid option, especially when stabilised by attachments on implants that stop them moving. Every restoration is designed digitally and followed step by step with our dental laboratory. Prosthetic work is led by Dr Miriam Cocchi at our Lugano practice — meet the team — and by Med. dent. Dental laboratories here in Ticino

The quality of a restoration depends as much on the hands that make it as on the clinical plan. That is why we work exclusively with top-tier dental laboratories in Ticino, among them Laboratorio MCM in Lugano, established in 1993 and specialised in all-ceramic restorations, zirconia and CAD/CAM workflows. Working with laboratories close by means fast turnaround, shade and shape try-ins with the technician present, and the freedom to refine every detail until the result is right.

The treatment journey

Examination, digital design, try-ins and fitting: every restoration is made to measure and adjusted until it feels completely comfortable. For more extensive work we first fit a temporary, which lets us check appearance, speech and chewing before the definitive restoration is confirmed. You always receive a detailed estimate before we begin, with the option of paying in instalments.

How long they last — and how to look after them

A ceramic crown or bridge lasts on average 10 to 15 years and often considerably longer; implant-supported restorations have a similar lifespan. The conditions are the same as for natural teeth: careful daily cleaning, including interdental brushes or special floss under bridges, regular professional hygiene and routine check-ups. Removable dentures should be cleaned daily and checked periodically to make sure they still fit well.
